Scrimshaw

An Inviting Coastal Coffee Experience

Scrimshaw, a coffee spot nestled in the heart of San Diego, embodies a philosophy of slowing down and savoring moments. The existing space, characterized by its dark and somewhat austere palette, presented an opportunity to infuse a sense of warmth and vibrancy while staying true to the cafe's core ethos.

The name "Scrimshaw" itself is a nod to the art of engraving on whalebone or ivory, traditionally practiced by whalers during long voyages. This connection to the sea, coupled with the cafe's whale logo, served as the primary inspiration for my redesign.

My vision for Scrimshaw was to transform the space into a bright, inviting sanctuary that reflects the tranquility of the ocean. The shift from the existing dark tones to a predominantly blue palette was a deliberate choice to evoke a sense of openness, relaxation, and connection to the sea.
